Trolley Storytime with the McPherson Library

|

We love our library! The McPherson Public Library has always had great programming, even throughout COVID. But they are knocking it out of the park this summer! I feel like this is the first summer in a very long time that all of the city is up and going with summer activities. There is something fun for kids to do almost every day of the week!

Since I do dialysis Monday, Wednesday and Friday those days are out for us. Tuesdays are usually filled with other doctor’s appointments. But that means that Thursday is a Selah and Mom fun day! I always try to find some fun activity for us to do together on Thursday. Today it was storytime on the trolley and it was a total hit!

The McPherson CVB has the trolley and it is used for a number of different things. We have tried to ride it a few other times, once to see Christmas lights and for a Christmas storytime but the tickets were all taken. We have learned that the trolley rides fill up fast! So while we have missed out in the past, today was our lucky day! Selah was so happy we got a turn on the trolley and it lived up to all of her expectations.

We got to ride around town and listen to a story by our favorite librarians. We even had time to sing a song before returning to the library. To make it even better, the story we read was about unicorns which made Selah especially happy.

When Sylas K was little I took him to every single event and activity in our town. We were always at the library, the zoo, the art center, the history center, and the pool. I feel like we were always on the go and built so many fun memories. WIth Selah, it has been so different. Between all the COVID shutdowns and then me being sick we just haven’t had as many experiences. I worry so much about how that impacts her development and I also worry that if I don’t make it through this kidney drama she won’t have enough memories of me. So what may seem like a small activity, riding a trolley, to some is a really big deal to us. It is something we will remember. I am desperate to make memories with her, good memories of fun times, not just a sick mom! The trolley ride was the ticket!
